Dru was inspired to create this canvas after he saw this Puccini Trittico at the Teatro Alla Scala in Milan. Dru traveled to Vienna after this opera, and in creating this piece he was sub-consciously influenced by the great Austrian Expressionist masters of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.
